Starting no later than age 12 – Yearly EDS screening recommended

Traditionally it was problematic to consider Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in pre-adolescent children because normal growth variations can mimic some EDS symptoms, especially joint hypermobility. A more helpful approach would be:

Start EDS screening before age 12 if there is a family history of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome or an obvious developmental concern.
